International Summer School on “AI and Criminal Justice”

The International Summer School on “AI and Criminal Justice”, organized by  Luiss School of Law in cooperation with Goethe University Frankfurt am Main is an advanced course which gives a comprehensive and up-to-date overview  of the interrelations between AI and criminal justice.

The course is one-of-a-kind, as it will bring together internationally recognized academics and practitioners who will co-teach during the interdisciplinary modules of the course. The course will be held in person at Luiss University.
Course objectives: The International Summer School on “AI and Criminal Justice” aims at providing participants with a comprehensive knowledge, as well as conceptual and normative tools to understand and manage
opportunities and threats brought by the latest AI
developments in the different areas of criminal justice.

To this purpose, the course will primarily give a solid background on how
algorithms work, essential in order to gain a full expertise to combine the related advantages and disadvantages. Afterwards, lessons will be focused on
AI applications in the criminal justice area, exploring the use of AI as a supportive tool in the public and private sectors and training participants’ skills to frame and solve the criminal liability issues related to these
new agents coming on to stage.

Target: The International Summer School on “AI and Criminal Justice” is an advanced course open to graduates, PhD students, post-doctoral researchers
as well as to practitioners from public and private sectors who intend to acquire an interdisciplinary and in-depth knowledge in the cutting-edge area of AI and criminal justice in its most recent developments at the
international level.
Course grading: 80% final exam and 20% class participation. The final exam consists in writing a short paper on a specific topic addressed during the course and approved by the coordinator/tutor.
