Trust and Conflict

4. November 2021/17:00 - 21:00

1. Annual Conference of the Research Initiative “ConTrust: Trust in Conflict – Political Life under Conditions of Uncertainty”

Trust is often understood to be the opposite of conflict. Researchers at the cluster initiative ConTrust, on the other hand, assume that in modern societies trust can not only be tested in and strenghtened through conflicts but, under certain conditions, even emerge out of them. At the same time, there are also problematic dynamics in which trust in specific persons or parties can fuel or intensify conflicts. For ConTrust, these observations lead to the task of examining the contexts of trust and conflict to specify the conditions under which social conflicts can be resolved successfully.
