Algorithms are becoming more and more important in the reality of our lives, and increasingly political as well. Also and especially in our democracies, they are changing the form of political power and order. For better or for worse, they are capable of influencing our political systems, stabilising them, transforming them and also shaking them up. For this reason alone, they require democratic (co-)shaping. Hopes for more democratisation, flexibility and cross-border sociality are contrasted by fears of economic surveillance, discriminatory classification, digital disenfranchisement and data illteracy. The lecture series “Algorithms and Democratic Systems” is dedicated to the associated questions. The lecture series continues the lecture series on “”Machtverschiebungen durch Algorithmen” and “Algorithms between Trust and Control”. It will take place – albeit only virtually – presented by the research network Contrust, the research network Normative Orders and in cooperation with the rankfurter Gespräche zum Informationsrecht des Lehrstuhls für Öffentliches Recht, Umweltrecht, Informationsrecht.
